Suggestions?

The extent of Lara and my international travels is a few trips to the border towns of Mexico and Canada and some short trips to London, Paris, Amsterdam, and Ireland so this trip is kind of new to us to say the least. With that said we could use some suggestions on what to see, where to stay, what not to eat, etc. on our trip. Here is a more detailed itinerary for people to check out and comment on. Comment away!!!

  1. For Greece:
I highly recommend seeing the Acropolis in Athens (of course); and taking a boat to some of the Greek Islands if you have time (Santorini being the most dramatic island setting). I can ask my dad and his wife for more "local expert" suggestions.

  4. This is the tour company I used in India to hire the driver. Personal driver is the best way to get around although you could use some trains too. Flying is also helpful for getting from one major city to another.

This company was very professional and when we compared it to other tour companies, the prices were comparable. We had them provide us with the cost that they would pay per hotel and we ended up booking all of our hotels online ourselves cause it was cheaper.

I recommend getting a prepaid cell phone. You need passport photos to sign up for a phone so get extras taken at Costco before you leave.

  5. In Cambodia be sure to check out Sihanoukville - it's on the southern coast, and is a backpacker's Phuket. We had a blast relaxing on the beach there for a couple days after the craziness that was Siem Reap and Phnom Penh.

If you have the time (doesn't seem like you do), I'd suggest stopping off in Laos as well (Vientiane and Luang Prbang are awesome) on your way into Thailand (esp. if you're headed up to Chiang Mai).

Sounds like an awesome trip - very very very jealous!

  6. PS If you haven't heard about it yet, we loved Hostel World (http://www.hostelworld.com/) when planning our SE Asia trip. We used it to find great hostels/guestrooms in Hanoi, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Bangkok.
